We go to childbirth classes, we learn how to feed and diaper… We decorate the nursery and shop for every type of gizmo and gadget….
Yet we don’t do anything to prepare ourselves or our relationships for the changes to come when preparing for the birth of a new baby….
I have been working with pregnant and postpartum mothers and couples for 16 years. Throughout this time, I have thought if only we helped couples to talk and plan for the changes to come in their lives and in their relationship before the baby was born…..
This would be extremely helpful in both the mother’s and father’s adjustment to this monumental life change. It would help them take better care of themselves, their relationship, and their baby……
I am developing a workshop for this very thing…. To help couples prepare for the coming of their baby. A plan to start on the right path and create a more nurturing, joyful environment and to ease the stressors that come with childbirth and having a newborn. Research has found that unrealistic expectations places new mothers at-risk for depression. Knowing what to expect, planning, and being realistic about the stress and change can greatly ease the transition to parenthood.
In this Workshop Expecting Parents Will:
- Explore the Identity and Role Changes They Will Experience and Make Plans to Prepare and Successfully Adapt.
- Explore the Changes Typical in their Relationship with their Romantic Partner After Having a Baby and How to Weather these Changes Positively.
- Explore Potential Changes in Friendships, Relationships with In-Laws, and Other Family Members and How to Manage These With Grace and Finesse.
- How to Best Support Each Other So That Each Can Become The Parent They Have Always Wanted To Be.
